Key Responsibilities:

The Assistant General Counsel for Product & Strategy – Global Identity and Cyber Protection ("GICP") is responsible for safeguarding the organization's legal interests and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. This role involves providing direct legal counsel to various levels of staff. The Assistant General Counsel will:

  • Support the General Counsel and business CEO as the primary legal advisor for the global identity theft and cyber protection sector.
  • Offer guidance on regulations, compliance, SaaS/e-commerce, and data privacy laws impacting GICP products.
  • Draft and review policies, procedures, agreements, and guidelines for Europ Assistance North America and its global distribution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop company policies and best practices.
  • Manage legal projects by defining scope, setting milestones, and tracking progress to ensure successful implementation.
  • Provide expertise in areas such as privacy, cybersecurity, SaaS technology, global regulations, and contractual structures.
  • Assist in marketing, product development, and vendor relations.
  • Negotiate data privacy agreements with a solid understanding of GDPR and CCPA.
  • Deliver practical legal advice to executives and stakeholders, balancing business goals with legal risks.
  • Enhance transaction processes to support innovation and improve outcomes without significantly increasing risk.
  • Effectively communicate complex legal concepts to stakeholders with varying levels of legal knowledge.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Proven track record in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex agreements, preferably in a large-scale enterprise SaaS environment.
  • Strong presentation skills to influence key stakeholders.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with internal and external parties.
  • Proficient in identifying complex issues and implementing solutions.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Composed and decisive in response to unexpected challenges.
  • Skilled in organizing tasks and activities for efficient workflow.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a regulated industry is advantageous.

Education and Certifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Juris Doctorate Degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in Washington, DC, or eligible to obtain licensure.

Work Environment:

This is a hybrid position based out of our Washington, D.C. office, requiring onsite work two days a week and remote work three days a week.
