Lead Immigration Attorney

POSITION SUMMARY
Every year, countless refugees and immigrants arrive in the United States seeking safety and a better future. To assist them in their journey, USCRI provides pro bono and low-cost legal services, ensuring they receive competent and comprehensive immigration support.
As part of our Preferred Communities initiative, we are looking for a Supervising Attorney to oversee the provision of pro bono legal services to Afghan parolees, asylees, and refugees across the nation. This role will involve managing program activities, supervising staff, and providing direct legal representation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and support the PC II Staff Attorney and Legal Assistants across various regions in the United States.
- Ensure timely submission of monthly data reports to the Legal Network Coordinator.
- Maintain updated contact information for all supervised offices.
- Conduct client intakes and provide legal consultations to assess eligibility for relief.
- Prepare and submit immigration applications for eligible individuals as per ORR Policy Letters.
- Facilitate referrals to other service providers and community partners.
- Represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, including participation in immigration interviews.
- Engage in outreach, lead training sessions, and participate in networking events.
- Maintain bar membership through ongoing legal education.
- Report directly to the Managing Attorney and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- J.D. with a valid law license and a minimum of two years of experience in immigration law.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective writing and intercultural communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and community events.
- A positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
- Commitment to USCRI's values, including respect for diversity and confidentiality.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training programs.
- Participation in additional training as required by supervisors or Human Resources.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Capacity for prolonged periods of sitting and standing, as well as occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds).
- Basic mathematical skills for quantitative tasks.
