Director, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management, Small Molecule OSD DP

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Director of Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management for Small Molecule OSD DP is responsible for cultivating strategic business relationships with various contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs).
  • Oversee the strategy, selection, risk assessment, and performance evaluation of CDMOs.
  • Act as the primary liaison for strategic business discussions, long-term supply and capacity planning, and business development initiatives.
  • Manage supplier performance metrics on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Serve as an escalation point for manufacturing operations team members regarding recurring performance challenges from suppliers.
  • Facilitate annual business review meetings (BRMs) with key suppliers.
  • Lead the identification and mitigation of supplier risks through ongoing risk management processes.
  • Responsible for the preparation, review, and tracking of RFPs/RFQs/RFIs for new business opportunities with external suppliers.
  • Negotiate Confidentiality Agreements, Master Services Agreements, and Work Orders.
  • Collaborate with Product and Portfolio Strategy team members to identify and manage strategic manufacturing service suppliers.
  • Support make versus buy analyses.
  • Lead and engage in Operational Excellence initiatives.
  • Coordinate and lead strategic meetings with CMOs and/or direct material suppliers as necessary.
  • Provide leadership and training to departmental personnel.
  • Develop budgets and accurately report accruals to Finance as required.
  • Participate in resolving complex issues.
  • Communicate issues promptly to line management and project teams.
  • Support product teams in selecting external service and/or material suppliers.
  • Lead site assessment teams (SATs) and/or category management teams (CMTs).
  • Stay informed about relevant Development and Commercial CDMO and material supplier capabilities.
  • Establish quality and technical execution expectations with vendors.
  • Collaborate and hold regular meetings with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Conduct Business Reviews with CMOs and/or direct material suppliers.
  • Organize and participate in teleconferences and face-to-face meetings with Global CMOs.
  • May oversee SSSM staff, including training, coaching, and performance evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 12+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech organization or relevant manufacturing setting, along with a BA or BS degree; an MA/MBA may substitute for 2 years of relevant experience, and a Ph.D. may substitute for 4 years of experience.
  • Previous experience leading outsourced development and manufacturing service providers and/or direct material suppliers.
  • Strong computer proficiency and familiarity with ERP systems and project management software.
  • Comprehensive understanding of activities related to the CMC development of biopharmaceuticals.
  • Advanced knowledge of GMPs and associated regulations.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams effectively.
  • Strong people management capabilities.
  • Extensive experience in negotiating complex agreements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs/projects with sound organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to create concise presentations to convey complex issues to senior management.
  • Ability to navigate uncertainty and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Ability to tackle highly complex problems through creativity and collaboration.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Project management experience and/or certification is a plus.
  • This position may require up to 20% domestic and/or international travel.

The salary range for this position is: $205,000 - $266,000; Gilead considers various factors when determining base compensation.
