The University of Miami is currently seeking a Nuclear Medicine Specialist- Level I to work at the UM Hospital & Clinics (UMHC) in Miami.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Verifies patients' identity by checking their name and date of birth. Obtains necessary consents from patients.
- Queries patients to assess comfort levels and pain evidence prior to, during, and after the completion of the exam.
- Maintains and sanitizes all equipment in accordance with decontamination protocols.
- Assists during emergency situations by ensuring patient safety and sensitivity.
- Supports the supervising physician throughout procedures with all required supplies.
- Confirms the correct radiopharmaceutical by checking the external label on the unit dose container and the syringe.
- Keeps accurate and complete patient records in both paper and electronic formats, ensuring confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state regulations.
- Refers to the standard dose table to verify dosage and determine the appropriate radiopharmaceutical for requested procedures.
- Adheres to organization-wide and unit-specific safety, security, and infection control standards.
- Assays radiopharmaceuticals in the dose calibrator and records activity amount and time of assay on the patient dose slip.
- Selects the optimal instrument and collimation to be used, adjusts settings on camera and computer control panels, and positions patients and cameras to achieve the desired view.
- Assists patients onto and off imaging tables, chairs, or stools using proper body mechanics and considering age-specific needs.
- Participates in appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency.
- Utilizes aseptic techniques for the administration of injected radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology accredited program.
Certification and Licensing:
NMTCB or ARRT-N registered. Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer or Basic X-Ray Machine Operator required. CPR and BLS certification required.
Experience:
