The University of Miami is currently seeking a Nuclear Medicine Specialist
  • Level I to work at the UM Hospital & Clinics (UMHC) in Miami.
The incumbent performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in nuclear medicine, focusing on radiopharmacology, the administration of diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals, quality assurance, and radiation safety.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Verifies patients' identity by checking their name and date of birth. Obtains necessary consents from patients.
  2. Queries patients to assess comfort levels and pain evidence prior to, during, and after the completion of the exam.
  3. Maintains and sanitizes all equipment in accordance with decontamination protocols.
  4. Assists during emergency situations by ensuring patient safety and sensitivity.
  5. Supports the supervising physician throughout procedures with all required supplies.
  6. Confirms the correct radiopharmaceutical by checking the external label on the unit dose container and the syringe.
  7. Keeps accurate and complete patient records in both paper and electronic formats, ensuring confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state regulations.
  8. Refers to the standard dose table to verify dosage and determine the appropriate radiopharmaceutical for requested procedures.
  9. Adheres to organization-wide and unit-specific safety, security, and infection control standards.
  10. Assays radiopharmaceuticals in the dose calibrator and records activity amount and time of assay on the patient dose slip.
  11. Selects the optimal instrument and collimation to be used, adjusts settings on camera and computer control panels, and positions patients and cameras to achieve the desired view.
  12. Assists patients onto and off imaging tables, chairs, or stools using proper body mechanics and considering age-specific needs.
  13. Participates in appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency.
  14. Utilizes aseptic techniques for the administration of injected radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
  15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology accredited program.

Certification and Licensing:
NMTCB or ARRT-N registered. Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer or Basic X-Ray Machine Operator required. CPR and BLS certification required.

Experience:
