Key Responsibilities

The MFIP Career Counselor provides tailored career and employment guidance to participants of the Minnesota Family Investment Program. This role involves comprehensive case management, coordination of resources, and support for individuals striving for self-sufficiency. The ideal candidate will assist diverse individuals and families facing various challenges in reaching their employment goals.

Core Duties Include:

  • Workshop Facilitation: Lead group workshops focused on career development and cognitive behavioral strategies, adapting materials to suit different learning preferences.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with colleagues to create and enhance programs that address the workforce needs of the community.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training and professional growth activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Outreach: Promote awareness of Goodwill's programs through presentations and community engagement with local employers and educational institutions.
  • Communication: Maintain regular contact with participants to ensure engagement and facilitate communication among partners.
  • Case Management: Conduct assessments and provide one-on-one support to help clients navigate their career paths, including job search strategies and application assistance.
  • Data Management: Accurately document client interactions and maintain confidentiality in compliance with data privacy regulations.
  • Organizational Culture: Contribute positively to a workplace that values diversity, integrity, and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and an understanding of systemic challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in resume and cover letter writing.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite and data tracking systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

Education and Experience

  • A degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in career counseling or case management is desirable.

Physical Requirements

This position involves sitting for extended periods and may require occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
