Key Responsibilities
The MFIP Career Counselor will provide tailored career and employment guidance to participants in the Minnesota Family Investment Program. This role requires extensive case management, coordination of support services, and motivation of individuals towards self-sufficiency. The ideal candidate will assist individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, helping them navigate various barriers to achieve their goals.
Core Duties:
- Workshop Facilitation: Conduct group career development workshops using established curricula, adapting materials to suit different learning styles.
- Program Development: Collaborate with colleagues to create and enhance programs that address community workforce needs.
- Professional Development: Participate in training and meetings to enhance skills and meet professional growth objectives.
- Outreach: Promote awareness of career solutions programs through presentations and community engagement with employers and educational institutions.
- Communication: Maintain ongoing communication with participants to ensure engagement and facilitate collaboration with local partners.
- Case Management: Conduct assessments and provide one-on-one support to help clients develop and progress on their career plans, including job search assistance and resource navigation.
- Data Management: Document client interactions and maintain accurate records in compliance with relevant policies and privacy laws.
- Organizational Culture: Contribute to a workplace that values diversity, integrity, and teamwork.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with diverse populations and understanding systemic barriers to employment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with knowledge of resume and cover letter writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with MFIP and data tracking systems is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Education:
- A degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field is preferred.
- At least two years of experience in career counseling or case management is required.
Physical Requirements:
This position may involve sitting for extended periods, occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds, and effective communication within various environments.
