Position Overview:

The University of Washington is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead the Human Resources unit within the division of People & Culture in UW Information Technology (UW-IT). This role is pivotal in developing and executing a cohesive people strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Provide training and coaching to supervisors and employees on real-time HR issues.
  • Identify trends in organizational health and collaborate with leadership to address concerns.
  • Oversee employee relations, including leave administration and disciplinary actions.
  • Contribute to leadership and staff development initiatives.
  • Manage all recruiting efforts, enhancing the partnership between the recruiting team and leadership.
  • Set direction for UW-IT Human Resources services and coordinate strategic projects.

Position Complexities:

This role requires a deep understanding of federal, state, and university employment laws and policies. The successful candidate will possess strong business acumen and the ability to navigate complex funding models within an academic environment. Additionally, the role involves promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, requiring strategies to attract diverse candidates and foster an inclusive workplace culture.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight years of Human Resource Management experience in a large, complex environment.
  • Proven management-level experience in HR and/or Payroll domains.
  • Significant experience handling complex employee relations issues.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in creating management training programs and developing organizational culture.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • SPHR or PHR certification.
  • Experience in a large university or medical center.
  • Familiarity with labor relations and union environments.
  • Proficiency in HR/payroll systems and Microsoft suite.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a hybrid environment, with expectations for in-office collaboration several days a week. The role requires adaptability to a dynamic and open office setting.
