RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

POLICY SUPPORT

POSITION SUMMARY

The New Rochelle Justice Initiatives (NRJI) aims to enhance community safety and improve outcomes for local youth and young adults. The Outreach Worker will play a crucial role in mentoring and advocating for a caseload of individuals significantly affected by the justice system and community violence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and nurture relationships with individuals impacted by the justice system and those at risk of gun violence through transformative mentorship.
  • Manage a caseload of participants, creating and executing personalized action plans.
  • Connect participants with community resources such as job training, educational programs, and treatment services.
  • Provide individualized mentorship and support using a transformative approach.
  • Engage participants in various community settings and advocate for them during court appearances.
  • Facilitate mentorship groups on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct workshops focused on gun diversion strategies.
  • Collaborate with community partners to identify and address areas of conflict and violence.
  • Proactively intervene in local disputes to prevent escalation and retaliation.
  • Document all interactions and progress of participants meticulously.
  • Organize and participate in community events and initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with various stakeholders in the community and justice system.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions, which may occur outside traditional business hours.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors regarding work activities.
  • Perform additional relevant duties as necessary.

LOCATION: New Rochelle, NY

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, with flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should possess a high school diploma and a minimum of two years of relevant experience or equivalent knowledge. Familiarity with mental health issues and the local community is essential. Experience working with youth in the justice system is preferred. Candidates must be able to navigate the community effectively and be willing to work in various weather conditions. Strong communication skills and a commitment to community improvement are vital.
