Position Purpose:
The Outreach Worker plays a vital role in connecting with individuals experiencing homelessness by employing innovative outreach strategies and a harm reduction philosophy. This role involves responding to community inquiries, facilitating housing solutions, and utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to engage clients effectively.

Work Schedule:
Saturday and Sunday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation:
$21 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
As part of a dedicated team, your responsibilities will include:
  • Engaging with individuals in areas with high concentrations of unsheltered clients
  • Promoting service objectives and guiding clients as necessary
  • Responding to specific requests from community leaders and organizations
  • Building and maintaining relationships with community partners
  • Addressing community inquiries regarding unsheltered individuals
  • Evaluating client safety and advocating for necessary services
  • Documenting client interactions and area assessments in relevant databases
  • Preparing reports on daily activities and client conditions
  • Assisting in the training of new personnel and participating in ongoing staff training
  • Operating outreach vehicles
  • Conducting outreach during emergency weather conditions
  • Participating in regular counts of homeless individuals in the community
  • Availability for holiday shifts as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Skills and Competencies:
  • Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges or homelessness is preferred
  • Adaptability in a dynamic work environment
Technical Proficiencies:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and relevant outreach software
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent walking and standing required
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs
Work Environment:
  • Combination of indoor and outdoor settings; exposure to various weather conditions
  • Primary operations based in lower Manhattan
  • Ability to navigate city traffic while driving
