Role Summary:
The Senior Director of Finance and Administration oversees the financial operations of the organization, which include treasury management, budgeting, audits, taxation, accounting, payroll, and human resources. This role requires a proactive leader who is also willing to engage directly with staff, embodying the collaborative spirit of our organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure precise accounting records are maintained and timely financial reports are generated for management and the Board of Directors.
  • Develop, uphold, and supervise accounting policies and procedures.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial insights and analysis throughout.
  • Manage cash flow, perform financial projections, and guarantee sufficient cash reserves.
  • Prepare annual audit documentation and tax return schedules.
  • Act as a liaison for financial matters with the Board's Finance and Audit Committees.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Committee to set investment policies and monitor the performance of investment managers.
  • Assist the Audit Committee in selecting auditors and serve as a point of contact for audit firms.
  • Advise management on significant corporate economic strategies and policies.
  • Work with the Development Department to ensure proper management of donor-restricted funds.
  • Coordinate with Shelter Operations to ensure compliance with county contract fund usage.
  • Oversee the financial management of the organization through direct reports.
  • Lead the Finance, Human Resources, and Purchasing departments, including employee benefits and recruitment processes.
  • Conduct analyses to identify financial trends, assess costs, and pinpoint potential savings or revenue opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain strong banking relationships.
  • Set annual objectives for the division aligned with the organization's goals.
  • Ensure timely completion of financial tasks and adherence to deadlines.
  • Participate as a member of the senior management team.
  • Review financial performance and monitor budget variances.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and preparation of necessary governmental reports.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all Board of Directors meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage employees in Accounting/Finance, Purchasing, and Human Resources.
  • Responsible for the overall direction and evaluation of these departments, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
  • Engage in hiring, training, and performance appraisal of employees.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience; CPA certification is preferred.
  • Expertise in nonprofit accounting practices.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit budgeting and auditing processes.
  • Demonstrated passion for the organization and its mission.
  • Hands-on, innovative approach to financial management.
  • Must pass a background check upon hiring.
