Role Summary:
The Senior Director of Finance and Administration oversees the financial operations of the organization, which includes treasury management, budgeting, audits, taxation, accounting, payroll, and human resources. This role requires a hands-on leader who is willing to engage directly with staff, embodying the organization's collaborative culture. The position demands both leadership and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure precise accounting records and timely financial reporting for management and the Board of Directors.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee accounting policies and procedures.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial insights and analysis.
  • Manage cash flow, conduct financial projections, and maintain sufficient cash reserves.
  • Prepare documentation for annual audits and tax filings.
  • Act as a liaison to the Board's Finance and Audit Committees regarding financial issues.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Committee to set investment policies and monitor investment performance.
  • Assist the Audit Committee in selecting auditors and liaising with audit firms.
  • Advise management on corporate economic strategies and policies.
  • Work with the Development Department to manage donor-restricted funds and ensure accurate financial records.
  • Coordinate with Shelter Operations to ensure compliance with funding agreements.
  • Utilize direct reports to ensure sound financial management across the organization.
  • Oversee the Finance, Human Resources, and Purchasing departments, including employee benefits and recruitment.
  • Conduct analyses to identify financial trends, assess costs, and explore revenue opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain strong banking relationships.
  • Set annual objectives for the finance division aligned with organizational goals.
  • Ensure timely completion of financial tasks and reporting.
  • Participate as a member of the senior management team.
  • Monitor financial performance and manage budget variances.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and prepare necessary tax returns.
  • Compile governmental reports and maintain account reconciliations.
  • Document and update accounting software systems.
  • Engage with external consultants for audits and management reviews.
  • Review and authorize invoices for payment.
  • Maintain records of Board of Directors meetings and related documents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Directly oversee employees in Accounting/Finance, Purchasing, and Human Resources, and indirectly manage related programs.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements in supervisory roles.
  • Handle recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and employee relations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and training; CPA preferred.
  • Strong expertise in nonprofit accounting practices.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit budgeting and auditing processes.
  • Demonstrated passion for the organization and its mission.
  • Proactive and hands-on management style.
  • Must pass a background check upon hiring.
