Position Overview

The Manufacturing Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work activities and resources essential for the production of Standlee Premium Western Forage products, ensuring adherence to cost, safety, quality, and quantity standards.

This role outlines the primary responsibilities and performance expectations, though it does not cover every specific task that may be assigned. Employees are expected to comply with additional job-related instructions and perform duties as reasonably directed by their supervisor.

Core Responsibilities
  • Recommend and coordinate procedures for the maintenance or modification of facilities and equipment, including machine replacements.
  • Develop and implement systems for production tracking and quality assurance, analyzing operational reports to identify production issues.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in budget development and expenditure approvals for supplies, materials, and workforce, ensuring efficient use of resources to achieve production goals.
  • Direct and manage production, processing, distribution, and marketing functions within the organization.
  • Train, assess, and supervise staff assigned to shifts, addressing any nonproductive or unsafe behaviors with the Plant Manager.
  • Establish employee involvement programs to encourage suggestions and engagement.
  • Stay informed about quality control specifications, utilizing product specifications and standard operating procedures related to material usage and technological advancements.
  • Prepare and maintain production work orders and documentation.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to troubleshoot and resolve production or processing challenges.
  • Review production schedules and orders to make informed decisions regarding inventory, staffing, work procedures, and assignments, considering budget constraints and time limitations.
  • Set and monitor product quality standards, inspecting raw materials and directing testing during processing to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with Distribution Center personnel to manage the transfer of finished products to inventory.
  • Implement and uphold best practice safety protocols to maintain optimal working conditions.

Business Impact
  • Accountable for the production of approximately $150,000 worth of forage products (retail value) per shift.
  • Responsible for supervising labor expenses of around $5,000 per shift.
  • Oversee the management of approximately $15 million in manufacturing assets during each shift.
  • Manage risk and assess the company's health, safety, and environmental programs, as ineffective supervision can negatively impact the company and its customers.
Qualifications
  • Production and Processing Knowledge - Familiarity with raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for optimizing manufacturing and distribution.
  • Management Principles - Understanding of strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques, and production methods.
  • Mathematical Skills - Proficiency in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Training and Education - Knowledge of curriculum design, teaching methods, and evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Mechanical Knowledge - Understanding of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Education - High School Diploma or an associate degree in a related field.
  • Experience - Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment with management responsibilities.
Working Environment

General Manufacturing Setting:

Work is primarily conducted indoors within the plant and occasionally in adjacent areas. Employees may encounter adverse weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation. Lighting conditions may vary based on the season and plant conditions. Employees often work near moving machinery and material handling equipment, with exposure to ergonomic risks, noise, and dust.
