Job Summary

The State of Maine, Bureau of Human Resources is seeking a highly skilled Eligibility Specialist to join our team. As an Eligibility Specialist, you will play a critical role in determining initial and continued eligibility for public assistance programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview clients to gather necessary information and assess eligibility for public assistance programs
  • Evaluate information and apply allowable standards and criteria to determine eligibility
  • Explain program eligibility requirements, rules, and regulations to clients and their representatives
  • Review and analyze information for accuracy, identify inconsistencies, and request necessary documentation
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with clients, coworkers, and other agencies
  • Maintain confidentiality of all applicant and recipient information
Requirements
  • A four (4) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in providing direct assistance to individuals or groups or deciding client eligibility in a business, legal, or social services setting
  • Strong interviewing and data gathering skills to form judgments in eligibility determinations, claims resolution, transaction processing, insurance coverage, and/or customer service requests
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high standards for customer service and program accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to interact with people from different walks of life and/or in various emotional states
