Northrop Grumman Defense Sector is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to join its team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position will be based in Plymouth, MN.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of Northrop Grumman's Defense Sector, supporting various Government programs, capture and proposal initiatives, and providing operational contract support. Reporting directly to Contracts Leadership, the candidate will collaborate closely with business managers, operations managers, capture managers, and other functional teams throughout the organization. Responsibilities will encompass all facets of contracts from the business development phase through to contract closure, ensuring high customer satisfaction, strong financial performance, and effective risk management. The ability to cultivate strong customer relationships and foster employee engagement is essential. The candidate must be a proactive self-starter, capable of working collaboratively with team members, including in an advisory capacity to program management, site management, and clients. Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS) is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage complex assignments while supporting Finance, Program Management, and various management levels.
  • Lead proposal development, contract negotiations, and administration activities from proposal initiation through to closure.
  • Oversee daily contract operations for a range of product lines and contract types, including cost-reimbursable and firm-fixed-price contracts; this includes establishing payment terms and monitoring invoicing, collections, and funding to meet financial objectives.
  • Input and manage data within the Contract Management System, financial systems, and delivery systems.
  • Engage in customer meetings, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and leading the change management process.
  • Negotiate non-disclosure agreements and contract terms within company guidelines.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, at least 6 years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree; or at least 4 years with a Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis on Excel.
  • Working knowledge of FAR/DFARS and experience with various contract types is essential.
  • Ability to effectively research FAR/DFAR information and understand regulatory changes and their implications on contracts/subcontracts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Project.
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFARS clauses.
  • Experience within the defense sector.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Capability to learn and utilize various data entry software tools and adapt to changes in those tools.
  • Basic understanding of Government contracting requirements.

Salary Range: $84,600 - $127,000

Salary Range 2: $104,900 - $157,300

The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may qualify for Long Term Incentives. Additionally, Northrop Grumman offers a variety of benefits, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plans, company-paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and personal business.
