JOB TITLE:
Transitional Kindergarten Educator

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the direct supervision of the Building Principal, the Transitional Kindergarten Educator is tasked with fostering the academic, social, and emotional development of students within the classroom environment.

This role involves collaboration with educational staff, parents, and community organizations to deliver high-quality instructional programs and fulfill additional responsibilities pertinent to this job description.


KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core Responsibilities:

Instructs students in foundational subjects including reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music, employing the curriculum approved by the Governing Board.

Guides students in understanding citizenship, essential communication skills, and other fundamental components of the curriculum as mandated by state regulations and the School District's Mission Statement.


Facilitates engaging learning experiences designed to inspire students and optimize instructional time.

Evaluates student performance through assessments and crafts lesson plans and educational materials tailored to the class, including individualized and small group instruction to meet diverse learning needs.


Establishes and upholds behavioral standards necessary for a productive learning environment.

Monitors academic and social progress of students, maintains accurate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates effectively with parents regarding individual student achievements.

Identifies student needs and collaborates with other educational professionals to address health, behavioral, and learning challenges.


Creates an inviting and functional learning space with input from students, incorporating displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.

Maintains professional development through participation in in-service training and self-directed educational activities.

Administers assessments as required by district policies.

Additional Responsibilities:
Selects and orders educational materials and supplies; maintains necessary inventory records.

Ensures a conducive classroom environment through management of heating, lighting, and ventilation.

Supervises students during recess, bus duty, and other out-of-classroom activities throughout the school day.


Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing protocols;

Engages in curriculum development initiatives at the school or district level.

Participates in discussions regarding student retention and promotion.

Collaborates with grade-level teams within the school and district.

Contributes to student activities and serves on faculty committees.

May oversee the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other support staff.

Participates in health education programs as assigned.

Working Environment:
Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in various meeting configurations.

Ability to stand and move around for extended periods.

Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws, codes, rules, policies, and other printed materials, as well as observing students.


Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.

Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, run, and crawl. Ability to reach in all directions.

Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Moderate to high stress levels may be encountered.

Environmental Conditions:
Work is primarily conducted in a classroom setting.

Normal temperature conditions, with occasional exposure to extreme weather.

Contacts:
Daily interactions with students, teachers, and school staff.

Regular or occasional contact with parents, community members, and external agency representatives.

Certifications/Licenses:
Must possess a valid Elementary Teaching Credential or equivalent certification issued by the appropriate authority.

First Aid and CPR certification required.

Qualifications:

Valid California Multiple Subject Credential with CLAD or BCLAD equivalent required.
BA in Early Childhood Education or completion of 24 ECE college semester units OR Child Development Teacher Permit required.

Submission of a Letter of Introduction, three Letters of Recommendation, and a current Resume is necessary.

Additional Information:

We seek fully credentialed educators who are not currently under contract.

The Morgan Hill Unified School District supports new teacher induction programs.

MHUSD acknowledges up to 14 years of previous accredited educational experience upon verification.
