PROVIDE ASSISTANCE
  • Engage with individuals to offer support in personal care tasks, including health and hygiene, household maintenance, nutritious eating, and managing health-related appointments and medications.
  • Participate in vocational, volunteer, and community activities that align with the organization's mission.
  • Facilitate skill development and independence while providing personal care support.
  • Assist individuals in advocating for their needs while supporting essential community living tasks.
  • Identify employment barriers and assist individuals in overcoming these challenges through supportive services.
  • Coordinate instruction to help individuals acquire independent living skills.
  • Research and facilitate opportunities that align with individual interests in work, recreation, and education.
  • Provide guidance related to post-secondary education, including enrollment and financial aid support.
  • Utilize the Emergency Response System effectively.

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT SERVICE PLANS
  • Promote a philosophy of competency, self-advocacy, and independence.
  • Understand and adhere to individualized service plans, including medical and behavioral components.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of instructional and behavioral plans.
  • Conduct assessments and interviews for service plan preparation.
  • Schedule and coordinate team planning meetings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate progress records and submit reports according to established protocols.
KEEP RECORDS AND WRITE REPORTS
  • Ensure accurate data entry for attendance and work records.
  • Submit required reports and session notes to supervisors.
  • Maintain individual progress records and write reports as per procedures.
TRANSPORTATION OF INDIVIDUALS
  • Transport individuals as necessary, which may involve using personal vehicles or Supportive Steps vehicles, while adhering to cleanliness and inspection requirements.
  • Assist individuals with public and para-transit services as needed.
DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS
  • Support individuals in establishing and maintaining social connections with their chosen support networks.
  • Engage in community events and activities alongside individuals.
  • Build effective relationships with individuals served, their families, peers, supervisors, and community members.
  • Participate actively in weekly staff meetings and training sessions.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide support as a Direct Support Professional across various Supportive Steps programs, including in-home care and community services.
  • Perform position-specific duties and other tasks as assigned by Supportive Steps.
  • Flexible part-time to full-time positions are available.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; college coursework in Special Education, Rehabilitation, Psychology, or related fields is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:
Ability to provide job training and supervision, fostering natural support in the workplace. Competence in negotiating work-related issues with employers is essential.

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is preferred. Strong customer service skills and a commitment to helping others achieve their goals are required. Proficiency in English is necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and assisting individuals in wheelchairs.
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle as part of the job.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Clearance of pre-employment Functional Capacity Evaluation with no restrictions that cannot be reasonably accommodated.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Second language proficiency is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
  • First Aid and CPR certification may be required.
  • Criminal Record Clearance.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., RBT, DSP1, DSP2) may be beneficial.
