The Retail Cash Handling Specialist plays a crucial role in the retail environment, managing cash and credit transactions for MedStar/Sodexo clients. The primary responsibility is to efficiently operate the cash register or point of sale (POS) system while ensuring accurate transaction completion. This position also involves supporting the retail operations, which includes setup, inventory management, and assisting with cleanup tasks during closing hours.
Education

  • Preferred: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of experience in the food service industry
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Basic computer proficiency is preferred.
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor and demonstrate integrity and ethics in the workplace.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and clients, providing clear communication and direction.
  • Basic food handling skills are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently operates a cash register or equivalent, processing payments in cash, checks, or credit from customers, providing change and receipts as necessary.
  • Ensures accurate entry of product codes and/or barcode scanning for all sale items.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service consistently.
  • Maintains the security of cash at all times.
  • Adheres to MedStar/Sodexo cash-handling policies and procedures.
  • May assist in meal preparation and dining area cleanup, including table wiping, floor vacuuming, and ensuring a clean dining environment.
  • Responsible for stocking beverage areas, grab-and-go items, service ware, and condiments as assigned.
  • Participates in training on allergy awareness and food safety.
  • Complies with all MedStar/Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Reports accidents and injuries promptly.
  • Follows all company safety and risk management protocols.
  • Engages in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • May assist in verifying transaction accuracy and managing non-cash transaction equipment.
  • Contributes to departmental goals and adheres to policies, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and represents the department in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
