Role Overview
The Museum shop offers a range of memorabilia related to the Holocaust and other significant events, including books, postcards, and videos. This shop plays a vital role in the Museum's mission by enhancing visitors' experiences and helping them remember their visits.
The Sales Associate position is situated within the Museum Shop and reports to the Office of Finance. The individual in this role will be responsible for processing customer transactions, whether in-person, via purchase order, over the phone, or through mail orders. Additionally, the Sales Associate will provide information to customers and ensure that shelves are well-stocked and organized to meet customer needs.
Work Schedule
This position requires a commitment to a 40-hour work week on a rotating schedule, which includes varied workdays and off days. The role is in-person, and telework is not an option.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers and operate the cash register to process sales transactions.
- Utilize cash register functions to handle various payment methods, including cash, credit cards, and checks.
- Verify customer identification and signatures as needed.
- Provide discounts to eligible donors, members, and staff.
- Manage refunds and voided transactions while explaining store policies.
- Maintain adequate cash register supplies and ensure financial security.
- Generate cash register reports and perform reconciliations.
- Direct customers to store sections and assist with inventory inquiries.
- Offer recommendations and resolve customer issues when possible.
- Ensure a clean and professional sales environment.
- Handle phone inquiries and process mail orders efficiently.
- Collect customer information for mailing lists and provide additional assistance as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in a retail sales environment.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Familiarity with POS systems and strong cash-handling abilities.
- Highly responsible, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Self-motivated and a positive team player with multitasking capabilities.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficient in computer usage and quick data entry.
- Respect for teamwork and openness to staff input.
Preferred Qualifications
- Availability for a rotating work schedule.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Interest in the cultural heritage sector.
