The Retail Cash Handling Specialist plays a crucial role in the retail environment, managing cash and credit transactions for MedStar/Sodexo clientele. The primary responsibility is to proficiently operate the cash register or point of sale (POS) system to ensure seamless transactions. Additionally, the Retail Cash Handling Specialist supports the retail operations by assisting with setup, maintaining inventory, and participating in cleanup and closing procedures. The general duties of this position encompass the following, although MedStar/Sodexo may assign other tasks as necessary based on business needs and client specifications.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in the food service industry is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Basic computer proficiency is preferred.
  • The individual must maintain a professional demeanor and demonstrate integrity and ethics in the workplace.
  • Ability to foster a positive atmosphere and communicate respectfully with colleagues and other departments.
  • Basic food handling skills are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently operates a cash register, receiving payments in cash, checks, and credit cards for goods or services, providing change and issuing receipts.
  • Ensures accurate entry of product codes and proper scanning of barcodes for sale items.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service consistently.
  • Maintains strict security protocols for cash handling.
  • Adheres to MedStar/Sodexo cash management policies and procedures.
  • May assist in meal preparation and dining area cleanup, including wiping tables and vacuuming floors.
  • Responsible for stocking beverage stations and grab-and-go items, as well as service ware and condiments.
  • Participates in training on food allergies and food safety.
  • Complies with all MedStar/Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Reports accidents and injuries promptly.
  • Follows all company safety and risk management protocols.
  • Engages in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • May assist in reconciling transactions and verifying the accuracy of records.
  • Contributes to departmental goals and adheres to policies, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and represents the department in community outreach efforts as needed.
