Position Overview

The Museum shop offers visitors a range of memorabilia related to the Holocaust and other significant events, including books, postcards, videos, and various related products. The Shop plays a crucial role in the Museum's mission by helping visitors reflect on their meaningful experiences.

The Sales Associate position is under the Office of Finance, located in the Museum Shop. The incumbent will be responsible for processing customer transactions, including on-site sales, purchase orders, phone orders, and mail orders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist customers and operate a cash register to process sales transactions.
  • Utilize cash register functions to handle various payment methods, including cash, credit cards, personal checks, and traveler's checks.
  • Verify customer identification and signatures as necessary.
  • Provide discounts to donors, members, employees, or volunteers as applicable.
  • Process refunds and voided transactions while explaining store policies.
  • Maintain adequate funds for change and stock of necessary supplies for the cash register.
  • Ensure the security of financial instruments and accuracy in cash handling.
  • Generate cash register totals and perform reconciliations.
  • Familiarize oneself with inventory and assist customers in locating items.
  • Provide information about store policies and general Museum information.
  • Make recommendations to customers upon request and address any issues that arise.
  • Maintain a clean and organized sales floor and workspace.
  • Handle phone inquiries and process mail orders as needed.
  • Collect customer information for mailing lists and provide additional assistance as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience in a retail sales environment.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and strong cash-handling abilities.
  • Highly responsible, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Self-motivated and a positive team player with multitasking capabilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and quick data entry abilities.
  • Respect for teamwork and openness to staff input.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Availability for a rotating work schedule.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Interest in the cultural heritage sector.
