Position Overview
The Museum shop offers visitors a range of memorabilia related to the Holocaust and other significant events, including books, postcards, and videos. The Shop plays a crucial role in the Museum's mission by helping visitors reflect on their experiences.
The Sales Associate position is integral to the Office of Finance, located within the Museum Shop. The role involves processing sales transactions for customers, whether on-site, via purchase order, over the phone, or through mail orders.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers and operate a cash register to facilitate the sale of merchandise.
- Utilize cash register functions to manage various payment methods, ensuring proper identification and signature verification.
- Apply discounts for donors, members, employees, or volunteers as applicable.
- Handle refunds and voided transactions while explaining store policies as needed.
- Maintain adequate funds for change and ensure the cash register is stocked with necessary supplies.
- Ensure the security of financial instruments and maintain accuracy in cash handling.
- Generate cash register reports and perform reconciliations as required.
- Stay informed about inventory and guide customers to different sections of the store.
- Provide information regarding store policies and general Museum inquiries.
- Recommend products to customers and address any issues or suggestions.
- Monitor the security of assets and inventory throughout the day.
- Restock shelves and maintain a clean and professional sales environment.
- Manage telephone inquiries and process mail orders efficiently.
- Prepare shipping labels and coordinate with shipping staff for order fulfillment.
- Collect customer information for mailing lists and assist with additional tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Two years of experience in a retail sales environment.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Familiarity with POS systems and strong cash-handling abilities.
- Highly responsible, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Self-motivated and capable of multitasking in a team-oriented setting.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with a diverse audience.
- Proficient computer skills with quick data entry capabilities.
- Respect for teamwork and openness to input from colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Availability for a rotating work schedule.
- Interest in the cultural heritage sector.
