Job Overview

We are looking for a talented Process Specialist to become a part of our Optical Manufacturing Team, focusing on the production of optical materials such as glass, crystals, and ceramics. This position involves managing essential operations including lapping, polishing, machining, and optical evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and enhance processes while creating comprehensive work instructions for technicians in the workshop.

- Initiate and refine new methodologies and modify existing processes as necessary.

- Engage in both formal and informal design assessments; oversee the development and sanctioning of engineering modifications (ECNs), and coordinate the procurement of components and prototype fabrication.

- Collaborate with team members across various departments.

- Prepare segments of program plans, including the scheduling of specific technical tasks and determining requirements for manpower, materials, and contracting.

- Design and develop tooling and equipment, conduct material tests, prepare specifications, and perform process studies and research investigations, along with report generation.

- Gather and analyze data to provide timely information to various stakeholders and management. Regularly report status updates to relevant manufacturing departments to facilitate necessary actions.

- Ensure comprehensive Product Information and Technical Product Documentation (TPD) to qualify, integrate, produce, and test products. Define specifications for packing, transportation, installation, usage, maintenance, and disposal of products, contributing to the documentation.

- Foster a collaborative environment by seeking solutions, executing diverse tasks, and maintaining effective communication.

- Mentor and guide less experienced colleagues in product and production techniques.

- Ensure designs adhere to specifications within the constraints outlined in project plans. Validate design qualifications through prototype production and testing execution. Ensure manufacturability and serviceability, including necessary tools and means.

- Deliver complex products and services according to established procedures and instructions for both current and new products. Manage actions and product-process information in production protocols and databases, highlighting any deviations or abnormalities.

- Identify and report recurring issues during product manufacturing or process execution. Work in accordance with Technical Product Documentation (TPD), ensuring completeness and quality. Initiate improvements as needed.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Optical Engineering, or a related discipline.

- 1-3 years of experience in optical manufacturing or comparable production roles.

Preferred Skills

- Familiarity with glass CNC machinery is advantageous.

- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing and product development.

- Proficient in quality enhancement and monitoring tools, including Lean, Six Sigma, and Statistical Process Control (SPC).

- Knowledge of standard measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).

- Experience with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software.

- Familiarity with production drawings.

- Strong teamwork abilities coupled with meticulous attention to detail.

- Excellent data collection and analytical skills.

Additional Information

This position requires access to controlled technology as defined in the Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to commencing work.
