Manager of Cash Accounting

ROLE SUMMARY

This position entails executing advanced professional responsibilities in the realm of financial accounting and reporting. A comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and practices, particularly in the context of higher education finance in line with GASB standards, is essential. Responsibilities include reviewing and verifying transactions related to the institution's cash accounts to guarantee the precision and reliability of financial data for reporting purposes. The work is notably intricate and diverse, necessitating independent thought and judgment, along with personal initiative in fulfilling assigned tasks. Oversight is provided by the Assistant Vice President, Controller, through routine evaluations of procedures and internal controls. Performance assessments are based on the successful completion of tasks and the outcomes achieved, conducted in accordance with the institution's policies and procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Reports to: Assistant Vice President, Controller

Supervises: No supervisory duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducts daily and monthly reconciliations of the institution's cash accounts to detect any fraudulent activities promptly.
  • Supports the Accounting team in ensuring timely completion of monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Calculates and submits tuition deposits and designated set-asides to the relevant state authorities.
  • Assists in the preparation and reporting of data for the annual financial report.
  • Facilitates the cleanup of cash general ledger accounts in relation to the Oracle Cloud implementation.
  • Maintains financial records using the institution's accounting system.
  • Handles general ledger account maintenance, including the preparation and posting of journal entries.
  • Audits accounts for accuracy and compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
  • Acts as a lead for the Accounting team, providing training on reconciliation processes.
  • Performs high-volume, critical account reconciliations that significantly affect the institution's financial operations.
  • Takes responsibility for outstanding items and ensures timely resolution of issues.
  • Provides support to institutional staff in addressing financial operational challenges.
  • Assists in the creation of routine and specialized financial reports.
  • Participates in internal and external audits, organizing documentation and ensuring audits are completed on schedule.
  • Ensures adherence to internal control protocols.
ADDITIONAL TASKS
  • Performs various clerical duties, including filing, proofreading, and preparing correspondence.
  • Collaborates to fulfill internal requests for financial data.
  • Undertakes other responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with a focus on accounting is required. Graduate coursework is preferred. Relevant job experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five years of experience in accounting is required. CPA or CGFM certification is preferred. Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge is acceptable.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular and dependable attendance at the institution during scheduled work hours is a fundamental aspect of this role.

  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and the public.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to represent the department and institution in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and other office equipment, including university-related software and email.
