Manager of Cash Accounting

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Cash Accounting plays a crucial role in executing advanced accounting and financial reporting functions. This position demands extensive expertise in accounting principles and practices relevant to higher education, adhering to GASB standards. Responsibilities include the meticulous review and validation of cash account activities to guarantee the precision and reliability of financial data for reporting purposes. The role involves complex and diverse tasks requiring independent judgment and initiative in executing assigned responsibilities. Supervision is provided by the Assistant Vice President, Controller, with performance assessments based on assignment completion and outcomes achieved.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports to: Assistant Vice President, Controller

Supervises: No supervisory duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducts daily and monthly reconciliations of the University's cash accounts to promptly detect potential fraud.
  • Supports the Accounting team in ensuring timely completion of monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Calculates and submits tuition deposits and designated set-asides to the appropriate state authorities.
  • Aids in the preparation and reporting of data for the annual financial report.
  • Facilitates the cleanup of cash general ledger accounts in relation to the Oracle Cloud implementation.
  • Maintains comprehensive accounting records using the University’s accounting system.
  • Performs maintenance on general ledger accounts, including the preparation and posting of journal entries.
  • Conducts audits of accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with University, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Acts as a lead for the Accounting Team, providing training on reconciliation processes.
  • Handles high-volume, critical account reconciliations that significantly affect the University’s financial operations.
  • Takes responsibility for outstanding items and ensures timely resolution of issues.
  • Assists University personnel in addressing financial operational challenges.
  • Contributes to the preparation of routine and specialized financial reports.
  • Assists with both internal and external audits, organizing necessary documentation to ensure timely completion.
  • Ensures adherence to internal control protocols.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Performs various clerical tasks, including filing, proofreading, and drafting correspondence.
  • Collaborates to fulfill internal requests for financial data.
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with a focus on accounting is required. Graduate coursework is preferred. Relevant job experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

A minimum of five years of experience in accounting is required. CPA or CGFM certification is preferred. Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge is acceptable.
