Position Overview

The Central Civil Works Department is expanding in the Great Lakes and Mid-West regions, and we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the design of innovative flood risk management systems, including locks, dams, floodwalls, and ecosystem restoration projects. Our team collaborates on initiatives across the nation and globally, combining the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, and environmental specialists to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions. This role offers a hybrid work environment.

Our clientele includes a range of organizations, from local authorities to national agencies, focusing primarily on federal projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership: Spearhead the development of structural analyses, plans, specifications, and technical reports, employing established techniques while exploring advanced methodologies for flood risk management projects.
  • Collaboration: Engage with clients and AECOM teams to secure stakeholder support for solutions and enhance AECOM's technical capabilities.
  • Quality Assurance: Supervise and review the work of team members, ensuring adherence to quality control standards for timely and precise outcomes.
  • Innovation: Actively seek and implement new methods and technologies to improve project outcomes.
  • Mentorship: Guide and oversee the work of junior engineers, fostering their professional development.
  • Team Integration: Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary project team, including civil, geotechnical, and mechanical engineers.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, providing necessary professional engineering seals.
  • Participate in value engineering and alternatives analysis.
  • Conduct site visits to assess ongoing construction activities.
  • Present project updates to clients as required.
  • Assist in proposal development and business growth initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain additional licenses.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Structural Engineer license.
  • 12 years of experience focusing on flood risk management projects.
  • Proficiency in structural design software.
  • Experience with federal projects.
  • Knowledge of federal flood control design guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills.
