We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer to join a prestigious multidisciplinary consultancy that specializes in the built environment. This role is ideal for an individual with a minimum of six years of post-graduate experience who is eager to contribute to innovative projects.

At this consultancy, the structural engineering team is dedicated to enhancing and developing the built environment through sound engineering principles and extensive knowledge. They assess, plan, design, and oversee a diverse range of construction projects throughout the UK.

The team consists of 30 technical professionals across two structural departments, fostering a collaborative and supportive culture. The Hemel Hempstead office is currently seeking a new member to join their existing team of fifteen engineers and technicians.

Projects span various sectors, including commercial, research and development, energy, and residential, ensuring a dynamic work environment with exciting challenges. The consultancy is involved in both new builds and refurbishment projects, working closely with in-house teams to deliver comprehensive engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead project teams, providing supervision and mentorship to engineers and technicians.
  • Oversee financial, technical, and project management aspects of all projects.
  • Prepare outline briefs, conduct site visits, and review planning history and services.
  • Develop preliminary layouts, assist with budgeting and programming, and assess project risks.
  • Prepare technical details for architectural designs and specifications.
  • Engage with architects, clients, subcontractors, and other professionals, representing the consultancy in a professional manner.
  • Evaluate the sustainability and environmental impact of projects.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, particularly regarding health and safety.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering is required.
  • Progressing towards Chartered status is preferred.
  • A minimum of six years' post-qualification experience in relevant structural design is essential.
  • Experience in preparing structural designs using various materials and in refurbishment projects.
  • A comprehensive understanding of structural design, with the ability to identify potential issues and provide solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach to teamwork and a good understanding of commercial awareness.
