POSITION TITLE: Senior Systems Administrator – VMWare

PROGRAM SUMMARY:Inalab Consulting, Inc. is seeking a skilled Senior Systems Administrator to oversee the management of our virtualized infrastructure and enterprise architecture. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the assessment, administration, documentation, and enhancement of our existing systems. This role involves designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining systems that resolve issues and streamline tasks through effective configuration and management of Windows and related software systems.
The selected candidate will engage with complex systems requiring meticulous planning, configuration, and implementation. Responsibilities include monitoring, maintaining, and upgrading systems to fulfill operational needs while ensuring thorough documentation. The candidate will provide specialized support and administration for all aspects of the virtual infrastructure, participating in all stages of planning, design, prototyping, development, testing, documentation, and software maintenance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience (7 years of work experience in lieu of a degree)
- Expertise in managing virtualized environments using the VMware suite (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi, Cloud Foundation, etc.) or comparable virtualization technologies
- Strong knowledge of storage networks, including iSCSI and NFS, and their integration with VMware infrastructure
- Experience in designing, configuring, deploying, and supporting block-level storage systems (e.g., Dell Unity, PowerStore, Compellent)
- Proficient in backup solutions such as Rubrik and Veeam, with a solid understanding of backup policies in both on-premises and AWS environments
- Ability to perform architectural planning using virtualization, distributed infrastructure, storage networks, and load balancing concepts
- Familiarity with configuration management tools like Puppet or similar technologies
- Proficient in using Git for version control and CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployments
- Understanding of infrastructure as code principles and best practices
- Comprehensive knowledge of security requirements and database operations
- Experience deploying ESRI tools or open-source mapping tools in AWS or on-premises settings
- Act as a Tier-1 IT emergency responder, providing both phone and onsite support, ensuring tickets are tracked and resolved efficiently
- Serve as the VMware administrator responsible for the virtual infrastructure lifecycle
- Manage patching and upgrades of virtual infrastructure components within specified timelines
- Ensure production systems are operational, secure, and consistently available
- Collaborate with system administrators for the creation, deletion, and modification of virtual machines
- Monitor system alerts and take necessary actions to maintain operational integrity
- Investigate and implement new technologies to enhance operational efficiency
- Troubleshoot and restore systems to operational status, providing detailed analyses of failures
- Optimize networking and storage solutions
- Coordinate planned outages and communicate with users regarding system downtime
- Prioritize and address high-priority requests promptly while managing other support tasks
- Provide support for standard IT tasks such as patching, configuration, and system builds
- Maintain and update internal documentation and wikis
- Automate tasks using modern scripting languages like Python, ensuring version control
