The Video Production Specialist role within the Creative Studio demands a high level of expertise in non-linear video editing, particularly in a dynamic sports news context. This position requires a collaborative spirit, working closely with various editing teams and partners to enhance the creative workflow while producing content of exceptional quality.

ESPN's Creative Studio operates under the Content division, comprising talented professionals in Motion Graphics, Editing, Visual Storytelling, Production Enhancements, Creative Operations, and Music. Our team includes Video Editors, Post Editors, Producer Editors, Sound Designers, Graphic Designers, Project Managers, and Art Directors, all dedicated to conceptualizing, developing, and delivering engaging content across ESPN's extensive distribution platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in assembling and crafting content using non-linear editing software in a fast-paced sports news environment.
  • Exhibit strong editing capabilities, effective communication, and the ability to thrive under pressure, meeting strict deadlines and live conditions with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure all produced content adheres to ESPN's rigorous standards for video and audio quality, implementing quality control measures to enhance video output.
  • Showcase a comprehensive understanding of editing workflows, software applications, and facility layouts within assigned areas.
  • Maintain organized media and adhere to established naming conventions.
  • Build strong relationships with partners to understand their roles and contributions to the Creative Studio.
  • Possess advanced organizational, creative, communication, and planning skills to foster team collaboration.
  • Provide exceptional service to all collaborative partners.
  • Train and mentor less experienced editors on editing workflows and software applications.
  • Contribute to training initiatives and project efforts through feedback and collaboration.
  • Stay informed about industry technology and help develop new workflows for accurate and effective project outcomes.
  • Adapt to and learn new techniques and software platforms that align with industry trends and requirements.
  • Identify and escalate issues promptly, recommending solutions and resolving operational challenges.
  • Facilitate strong multi-directional communication to ensure successful project execution and achievements.
  • Initiate creative projects and propose ideas that align with departmental goals.
  • Understand various file-based formats and provide support for file-based ingestion.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in editing or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of non-linear editing software such as Adobe Premiere, Avid, Grass Valley Edius, or Qube.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud applications (After Effects, Audition, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Experienced in media transfer workflows (ingest/publish/export).
  • Strong understanding of audio and video broadcast quality control standards.
  • Able to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced sports newsroom environment.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Office, Slack, Workfront).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Flexibility to adjust shifts and work overtime to meet project demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth experience with non-linear editing software, particularly Adobe and Grass Valley products.
  • Strong understanding of both linear and non-linear production workflows, including social media.
  • Familiarity with PC and Mac operating systems.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Studio Production, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Vocational training or relevant experience.
