The position of Creative Video Production Specialist requires a high level of expertise in non-linear video editing within a dynamic sports news setting. This role emphasizes collaboration across various editing teams and partnerships to enhance the creative workflow while maintaining a superior standard of editing quality.

ESPN Creative Studio operates within the Content division of ESPN, encompassing a diverse team of professionals including Motion Graphics artists, Editors, Visual Storytellers, Production Innovators, Creative Operations experts, and Music specialists. Our unit is dedicated to the conceptualization, development, and execution of content across all ESPN distribution platforms, both domestically and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in assembling and producing content using non-linear editing software in a fast-paced sports news environment.
  • Exhibit strong editing capabilities, effective communication, and the ability to thrive under pressure, meeting strict deadlines and live conditions with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure all produced content adheres to ESPN's rigorous standards for video and audio quality, implementing quality control measures and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of editing workflows, software, and facility layouts in designated areas.
  • Maintain organized media and adhere to established naming conventions.
  • Build strong relationships and gain insights into partner operations, enhancing integration with Creative Studio.
  • Utilize advanced organizational, creative, communication, and planning skills to foster team collaboration.
  • Provide exceptional service to all collaborative partners.
  • Train less experienced editors on editing workflows and software, contributing to training initiatives and project feedback.
  • Stay informed about industry technology and assist in establishing new workflows for effective results on current and future projects.
  • Adapt to new techniques and software platforms that align with industry trends and requirements.
  • Identify and escalate issues promptly, recommending solutions and resolving operational errors and equipment malfunctions.
  • Facilitate strong multi-directional communication to ensure successful project outcomes and initiatives. Proactively initiate creative projects and propose ideas aligned with departmental goals.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of various file-based formats and provide support for file-based ingestion.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in editing or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of non-linear editing software (Adobe Premiere, Avid, Grass Valley Edius, etc.).
  • Strong familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (After Effects, Audition, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Proficient in media transfer workflows (ingest/publish/export).
  • Thorough understanding of audio and video broadcast quality control standards.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced sports newsroom environment.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaboration tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and adjust shifts to meet project demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth experience with non-linear editing tools, particularly Adobe and Grass Valley software.
  • Strong understanding of both linear and non-linear production workflows, including social media.
  • Familiarity with PC and Mac operating systems.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Studio Production, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Relevant vocational training or experience.
