Job Summary:

As a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, you will play a critical role in creating a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth in our care. You will provide support, guidance, and structure to our detained youth, modeling and reinforcing pro-social behaviors such as patience, empathy, cooperation, professionalism, and respect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for the custody, security, and care of youth through adherence to policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain order and discipline by intervening with youth through active supervision and controlling inappropriate behavior.
  • Supervise and plan the work of assigned staff, ensuring the provision of direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth.
  • Complete administrative paperwork, prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports.
  • Develop work and security procedures, supervise contraband searches and inspections, and maintain physical control of logs, keys, tools, weapons, and related equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of, comply with, and enforce all facility policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.
  • Provide support in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate staff, and read and review youth information to identify issues that require special attention.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma/GED and one year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP222) or equivalent are required. You must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification within the first six months of employment and have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current and valid certification as a Juvenile Correctional Officer by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council.
  • One or more years of experience in a Juvenile Justice environment.
  • Completion of one or more years of college.

Military Salary Increase Incentive Amount:

  • 2.5% for one year of active duty service.
  • 5% for two years of active duty service.
  • 7.5% for three years of active duty service.
  • 10% for 4+ years of active duty service.
