Position Overview

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and directing all mechanical functions related to our water projects and additional assignments as required. This position demands a proficient leader with significant expertise in mechanical systems, project oversight, and team management.

The successful candidate will guarantee that all mechanical tasks are executed safely, punctually, and within budgetary constraints while upholding the highest quality standards.


District Overview

Kiewit's Southern California District stands as a premier infrastructure division, focusing on substantial civil projects that encompass earth moving, water/wastewater, transportation, roadways, and energy initiatives. Most operations are concentrated in the Southern California area.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate all mechanical activities on designated projects.
  • Supervise and mentor mechanical teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Ensure all mechanical work adheres to project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote and enforce a robust safety culture, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and control project expenses, ensuring efficient use of resources and materials, and approve monthly job cost updates.
  • Identify and resolve any mechanical issues or challenges that arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, addressing any concerns and providing regular project updates.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, schedules, and change orders.
  • Assist in schedule planning, determining craft labor levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements.
  • Manage contract administration (subcontractor/field management).
  • Mentor and assist in the development of fellow Kiewit staff through performance evaluations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction experience with 3+ years in a Superintendent/leadership capacity.
  • Associated or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings, and other documents.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit's policies, procedures, and software programs.
  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
  • Ability to access all areas on a construction project site.

  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.

Base Compensation: $87,319 - $206,336

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
