Position Overview

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and directing all mechanical components of our water projects and other assignments as necessary. This position demands a proficient leader with significant expertise in mechanical systems, project oversight, and team management.

The successful candidate will guarantee that all mechanical tasks are executed safely, punctually, and within budgetary constraints while upholding the highest quality standards.


District Overview

Kiewit's Southern California District stands as a prominent entity in infrastructure, focusing on substantial civil projects that encompass earth moving, water/wastewater, transportation, roadways, and energy initiatives. Our operations are primarily concentrated in the Southern California area.

Location

We are seeking Superintendents for various projects based in Southern California.

This role may involve locations within Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, San Fernando Valley, and Glendora, CA.


Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate all mechanical operations on designated projects.
  • Supervise and mentor mechanical teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Ensure all mechanical work adheres to project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Foster and enforce a robust safety culture, complying with all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Monitor and manage project expenses, ensuring optimal use of resources and materials, and approve monthly job cost updates.
  • Identify and address any mechanical challenges or issues that arise throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain positive client relationships, addressing concerns and providing regular project updates.
  • Prepare and maintain precise project documentation, including daily reports, schedules, and change orders.
  • Assist in schedule planning, determining labor levels, material quantities, and equipment needs.
  • Oversee contract administration (subcontractor/field management).
  • Guide and develop fellow Kiewit staff through performance evaluations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction experience with 3+ years in a Superintendent or leadership role.
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to quickly learn and comprehend various processes related to Kiewit's policies, procedures, and software applications.
  • Capability to identify and resolve any issues that may occur.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract management.
  • Ability to access all areas on a construction project site.

  • Work productively and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others in a team environment.
  • Perform work safely and effectively, understanding and following instructions, including safety signs and equipment use.
  • Work during standard operating hours to organize and complete tasks within set deadlines. Overtime and weekend work may be required.
  • May work at various locations with varying conditions.

Base Compensation: $87,319 - $206,336

(Actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skillset, and/or location.)
