Job Overview

Position Summary:
Join the innovative team at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, where we focus on groundbreaking research in genomic and epigenomic alterations related to childhood cancers. This role will involve engaging in a project that emphasizes data-centric analyses of pediatric malignancies, particularly examining the mechanisms behind transcriptional regulation of oncogenes and the influence of circular extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) in treatment resistance.

Research Focus:
The selected candidate will utilize advanced methodologies in cancer data cloud computing, multiome sequencing (both bulk and single-cell), spatial transcriptomics, and epigenomics. The role will also incorporate machine learning techniques, microscopy image analysis, and extensive chromatin studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a research project centered on chromatin dynamics and gene regulation in pediatric cancers.
  • Formulate hypotheses, design and execute experiments, analyze data, and refine experimental protocols.
  • Conduct data analysis and contribute to the development of computational tools.
  • Collaborate effectively with lab members to enhance research synergies.
  • Present findings during weekly lab meetings and at various scientific gatherings.
  • Foster collaborations with other research teams within the institute and beyond.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD or equivalent degree in biological sciences is required.
  • Proficiency in computational biology is essential.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of molecular biology, particularly chromatin and epigenetics.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods relevant to biological research.
  • Exceptional computational skills are mandatory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with Principal Investigators and team members.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong time management skills.

Supervisory Role:
This position will involve supervising graduate and undergraduate students.

Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this role is $68,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
