POSITION TITLE: Postdoctoral Associate

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Department of Neuroscience at Scripps Research is seeking Postdoctoral Associates to join the innovative lab of Dr. Chen Ran. Our research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying interoception, exploring how the brain interprets signals from internal organs to create our internal experiences. Utilizing cutting-edge in vivo functional imaging, electrophysiological techniques, mouse genetics, manipulation of neuronal activity, behavioral studies, and computational methods, our lab aims to decipher how the nervous system processes various stimuli from the body to generate sensations such as hunger, satiety, nausea, and visceral pain. The insights gained from our research will contribute to a deeper understanding of brain function and may lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies for conditions like hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and more.

The Ran lab and the Doris Neurosciences Center foster a dynamic, collaborative, and results-oriented environment. Successful candidates will be expected to present findings at lab meetings and scientific conferences, prepare research manuscripts, mentor junior team members, and pursue external fellowship opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree, with consideration given to those nearing completion. Ideal applicants will be self-driven, detail-oriented, and possess a robust background in neurobiology, cellular and molecular biology, engineering, computational biology, immunology, or related fields. We particularly encourage applications from individuals with expertise in:
  • Microscopy and imaging analysis
  • Physiology
  • Systems neuroscience
  • Optogenetics and behavioral studies
COMPENSATION: Postdoctoral Associates will be compensated in accordance with the National Institute of Health and California's exempt salary guidelines, with a starting salary range of $68,000 to $73,230, commensurate with experience.
