Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Community Supervision Officer to join our team at Jefferson County, TX. As a key member of our Community Supervision & Corrections department, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety and providing support to offenders in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations and evaluations of offenders' criminal and social histories to provide accurate information and recommendations to the Courts.
  • Interview defendants, family members, victims, law enforcement personnel, and other relevant parties to gather information and assess risk and need factors.
  • Compile and review offense reports, employment information, psychological evaluations, and medical records to inform your recommendations.
  • Develop and implement effective probation plans, including conditions and recommendations for sentencing decisions.
  • Monitor offenders' compliance with probation conditions and provide updates to the Courts and District Attorney's Office as needed.
  • Prepare and submit Pre-Sentence and Post-Sentence Investigation Reports, adhering to Unit Standards, Departmental Standards, and Court expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with Courts, District Attorney's Office, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration and coordination.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion, as prescribed by law.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in behavioral sciences, sociology, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • One year of graduate study in an approved field or one year of full-time casework, counseling, community, or group work experience.
  • Two to three years of experience as a Certified Community Supervision Officer or in a similar position in a comparable community corrections agency.
  • Must complete coursework and obtain certification as a Community Supervision Officer through CJAD of TDCJ within one year of employment, if not certified.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with defendants, victims, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Effective counseling skills and leadership ability.
  • Problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, and knowledge of the Texas Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure.
Working Conditions

This role requires regular and predictable attendance, with occasional irregular hours, driving, and out-of-town travel to attend educational seminars and training sessions. The employee will work independently and in groups, solving problems and interpreting policies and guidelines. Office duties are primarily sedentary, but may require some light work, including frequent walking, reaching, and pulling to deliver/retrieve files and paperwork. Field visits require driving a vehicle and walking, often in high-crime areas and potential exposure to criminal activities.
