PRIMARY ROLE:

The Senior Director of Advocacy Programs plays a pivotal role in providing leadership, vision, and ensuring the effective and compassionate delivery of advocacy services for individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. This senior management position reports directly to the Vice President of Victim Services and oversees various directors within the advocacy framework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uphold the organization's dedication to anti-racism, feminism, and trauma-informed practices in all initiatives, both in service delivery and leadership.
  2. Lead the Victim Services advocacy management team, including the recruitment, supervision, training, and performance evaluation of staff.
  3. Collaboratively design, implement, and enhance processes that improve program effectiveness and wellness outcomes.
  4. Focus on staff wellness by establishing mechanisms to safeguard team members' time, workload, and resilience against high trauma exposure.
  5. Conduct weekly individual supervision sessions for direct reports and engage in regular supervision with the Vice President.
  6. Identify and address operational challenges and service gaps within programs.
  7. Ensure timely submission of grant reports in compliance with funding guidelines and prepare reports for leadership and the Board as needed.
  8. Establish and execute annual operational and staffing objectives for advocacy programs.
  9. Develop training and orientation procedures for technology and data use for Victim Assistance Specialists.
  10. Create a collaborative environment that promotes power sharing, trauma-informed care, feminist principles, and anti-racist teamwork.
  11. Oversee the forecasting, development, and management of complex, multi-million dollar program budgets in collaboration with departmental teams.
  12. Provide guidance and training to shelter advocacy staff while ensuring the achievement of program goals in accordance with grant requirements.
  13. Supervise shelter programming to meet funding obligations.
  14. Manage data collection processes to align with funding and program requirements.
  15. Ensure regular training and team meetings for all shelter staff.
  16. Oversee procurement of food and supplies for shelter operations.
  17. Coordinate with all agency programs to ensure high-quality, integrated services.
  18. Monitor building and shelter security systems and protocols.
  19. Ensure necessary maintenance and custodial tasks are performed as required.
  20. Develop, implement, and assess program goals and objectives, ensuring high-quality service delivery to survivors and the community.
  21. Facilitate regular supervision meetings with staff, interns, and volunteers to support their professional growth using a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.
  22. Compile statistics as mandated by funding sources and agency requirements, fulfilling all grant and reporting obligations.
  23. Collaborate effectively with other department leaders.
  24. Participate in management team meetings to ensure the successful achievement of programmatic goals and grant requirements.
  25. Provide ongoing support to the Vice President of Victim Services regarding program achievements, updates, activities, outcomes, staffing changes, concerns, and recommendations.
  26. Engage in Supervisor On-Call responsibilities as needed.
  27. Adhere to Service Excellence standards consistently.
  28. Represent YWCA Kalamazoo by engaging in community activities, coalitions, and task forces as assigned by the Vice President of Victim Services.
  29. Comply with agency policies, federal and state regulations, and educational/certification requirements.
  30. Complete special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in social work or a related field.
  2. A minimum of ten years of experience in crisis intervention and residential or housing services is preferred.
  3. At least five years of supervisory experience.
  4. Proven expertise in change management and organizational culture development.
  5. Ability to manage conflict effectively and utilize de-escalation techniques.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Experience working with diverse populations.
  8. Knowledge of family dynamics and child development.
  9. Empathetic with the ability to establish rapport.
  10. Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  11. Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Requires sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.

  3. Utilization of hand and finger dexterity is necessary.
  4. Occasional climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crawling may be required.
  5. Regular communication is essential.
  6. Exposure to various environmental conditions may occur.
  7. Moderate noise levels are typical in the work environment.
  8. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  10. Use of specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles, including computers and motor vehicles.

  1. Orientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose, and One Imperative.
  2. Racial Justice Training.
  3. Orientation to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Confidentiality, and Mandatory Reporting.
  4. Additional training and in-service opportunities will be provided during employment.
