Position Overview

MISSION STATEMENT:

PRIMARY ROLE:

The Senior Director of Advocacy Programs plays a pivotal role in providing leadership, vision, and ensuring the effective and compassionate delivery of advocacy services for individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. This senior management position reports directly to the Vice President of Victim Services and supervises the Directors of Emergency Services, Non-Residential Advocacy, and Anti-Trafficking.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uphold the organization's dedication to anti-racism, feminism, and trauma-informed practices in all initiatives, both in service delivery and leadership.
  2. Oversee the advocacy leadership team within Victim Services, including the recruitment, supervision, training, and performance evaluation of staff.
  3. Collaboratively design, implement, and enhance processes and structures that advance program and wellness outcomes.
  4. Focus on staff wellness by establishing systems to safeguard team members' time, workload, and resilience against the effects of high trauma exposure.
  5. Conduct weekly individual supervision sessions for direct reports and engage in weekly supervision with the direct supervisor.
  6. Identify and address operational challenges and service gaps within programs.
  7. Ensure timely creation and submission of grant reports in alignment with funding guidelines and prepare reports for organizational leadership and the Board as needed.
  8. Set and implement annual operational and staffing objectives for direct service advocacy programs.
  9. Develop training and orientation procedures for technology and data use for Victim Assistance Specialists managing phone, online chat, and text messaging services.
  10. Foster an environment that encourages power sharing, trauma-informed practices, feminist principles, and anti-racist teamwork.
  11. Forecast, develop, and manage complex multi-million dollar program budgets in collaboration with departmental teams.
  12. Provide guidance, education, and training to shelter advocacy staff while ensuring program goals and objectives are met according to grant and foundation requirements.
  13. Supervise shelter programming to meet funding obligations.
  14. Oversee data collection in accordance with funding and program requirements.
  15. Ensure regular training and team meetings are conducted for all shelter staff.
  16. Manage the procurement of food and supplies for shelter operations.
  17. Coordinate with all agency programs to ensure high-quality, integrated services.
  18. Monitor building and shelter security systems and protocols.
  19. Ensure necessary maintenance and custodial tasks are completed as required.
  20. Develop, implement, and assess program goals and objectives, ensuring high-quality service delivery to survivors and the community through monitoring and supervision.
  21. Facilitate regular supervision meetings with staff, interns, and volunteers to support their professional growth using a trauma-informed, client-centered, harm reduction approach.
  22. Compile statistics as mandated by funding sources and agency requirements, completing all grant and reporting obligations as requested.
  23. Collaborate effectively with other department leaders.
  24. Participate in management team meetings to ensure the successful achievement of programmatic goals, grant requirements, and expectations set by the Vice President of Victim Services.
  25. Provide ongoing support to the Vice President of Victim Services regarding program achievements, updates, activities, outcomes, staffing changes, concerns, and recommendations.
  26. Engage in Supervisor On-Call responsibilities.
  27. Adhere to Service Excellence standards consistently.
  28. Represent the organization by participating in community activities, coalitions, and task force groups as assigned by the Vice President of Victim Services.
  29. Comply with agency policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations and educational/certification requirements.
  30. Complete special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in social work or a related field.
  2. A minimum of ten years of experience in crisis intervention and residential or housing services is preferred.
  3. At least five years of supervisory experience.
  4. Proven skills in change management and developing organizational culture.
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and utilize de-escalation techniques effectively.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  8. Knowledge of family dynamics and child development.
  9. Empathetic with the ability to establish rapport.
  10. Capacity to maintain appropriate boundaries.
  11. Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices.
