Position Overview

PRIMARY ROLE:

The Senior Director of Advocacy Programs plays a pivotal role in providing strategic leadership, vision, and ensuring the effective and compassionate delivery of advocacy services for individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. This executive position reports directly to the Vice President of Victim Services and supervises the Directors of Emergency Services, Non-Residential Advocacy, and Anti-Trafficking.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Embed the organization's dedication to anti-racism, feminism, and trauma-informed practices in all initiatives, both in service delivery and leadership.
  2. Oversee the leadership team for Victim Services advocacy, including recruitment, supervision, training, and performance evaluation of staff.
  3. Collaboratively design, implement, and enhance processes that drive program effectiveness and wellness outcomes.
  4. Focus on staff wellness by establishing systems that safeguard team members' time, workload, and resilience against the effects of trauma exposure.
  5. Conduct weekly one-on-one supervision sessions with direct reports and engage in regular supervision with the Vice President.
  6. Identify and address operational challenges and service gaps within programs.
  7. Ensure timely submission of grant reports in compliance with funding guidelines and prepare reports for leadership and the Board as necessary.
  8. Set and execute annual operational and staffing objectives for advocacy programs.
  9. Develop training and orientation procedures for technology and data usage for Victim Assistance Specialists managing communication channels.
  10. Foster an environment that promotes shared power, trauma-informed care, feminist principles, and anti-racist teamwork.
  11. Forecast, develop, and manage complex multi-million dollar program budgets in collaboration with departmental teams.
  12. Provide guidance and training to shelter advocacy staff while ensuring the achievement of program goals in line with grant requirements.
  13. Supervise shelter operations while meeting funding obligations.
  14. Oversee data collection processes in accordance with funding and program standards.
  15. Ensure regular training and team meetings for all shelter personnel.
  16. Manage procurement of food and supplies for shelter operations.
  17. Coordinate with all agency programs to guarantee high-quality, integrated services.
  18. Monitor building and shelter security systems and protocols.
  19. Ensure necessary maintenance and custodial tasks are performed as required.
  20. Develop, implement, and assess program goals and objectives, ensuring high-quality service delivery to survivors and the community through effective monitoring and supervision.
  21. Conduct regular supervision meetings with staff, interns, and volunteers to support their professional growth using a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.
  22. Compile statistics as mandated by funding sources and agency standards, fulfilling all grant and reporting obligations as requested.
  23. Collaborate with other department leaders to achieve organizational goals.
  24. Participate in management team meetings to ensure the successful attainment of programmatic objectives, grant requirements, and expectations from the Vice President of Victim Services.
  25. Provide ongoing support to the Vice President regarding program achievements, updates, activities, outcomes, staffing changes, concerns, and recommendations.
  26. Engage in on-call supervisory responsibilities as needed.
  27. Adhere to Service Excellence standards consistently.
  28. Represent the organization by engaging in community activities, coalitions, and task forces as directed by the Vice President of Victim Services.
  29. Comply with agency policies, federal and state regulations, and training requirements.
  30. Complete special projects and undertake additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in social work or a related discipline.
  2. A minimum of ten years of experience in crisis intervention and residential or housing services is preferred.
  3. At least five years of supervisory experience.
  4. Proven skills in change management and fostering organizational culture.
  5. Ability to manage conflict effectively and utilize de-escalation techniques.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Experience working with diverse populations.
  8. Knowledge of family dynamics and child development.
  9. Empathetic with the ability to build rapport.
  10. Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  11. Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices.

  13. Occasional lifting and/or moving more than 10 pounds.
  14. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  15. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  16. Use of specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles such as computers and motor vehicles.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Orientation to organizational policies, mission, and values.
  2. Racial Justice Training.
  3. Orientation to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Confidentiality, and Mandatory Reporting.
  4. Additional training and in-service sessions during employment.
