Work Schedule:

Compensation:
Support Salary Scale Grade S06: $20.81 per hour; starting This position is classified as non-exempt from overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Actual salary placement will align with the salary procedures of Frederick County Public Schools.

Position Overview:

The Floater Site Assistant plays a crucial role in filling temporary vacancies and absences across all schools and regions by stepping in as a temporary Site Assistant in the cafeteria. This position is accountable for the comprehensive operation of the Food and Nutrition Services facility, adhering to the standards set by Food and Nutrition Services, the Board of Education, as well as State and Federal regulations and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Food and Nutrition Services Specialist, the Floater Site Assistant will undertake the following duties:

Guide and train Food and Nutrition services personnel to ensure compliance with established standards. Implement the Free and Reduced Meals Program at the school level. Actively engage in the receiving, preparation, and serving of meals to customers. Oversee accountability programs (e.g., meal program inventory, banking, etc.). Ensure food quality standards are met. Promote the Food and Nutrition Services program within the school. Maintain daily records, including production sheets, temperature logs, invoices, and accountability documentation. Develop daily workflows and coordinate work schedules. Perform various food service tasks (e.g., cashiering, food preparation, serving, dishwashing, and sanitation), while consistently adhering to Department of Health regulations. Ensure adherence to recipes. Implement safety and sanitation standards in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines. Manage inventory, place orders, and account for food and supplies. Participate in mandatory training workshops and meetings. Understand, communicate, and ensure compliance with USDA and Maryland State Department of Education School Nutrition Regulations. Be available for overtime as needed to cover school schedules during absences. Effectively utilize and instruct staff on the time clock for accurate payroll processing. Collect leave forms for staff absences. Work in the capacity of a site assistant or food service worker across all Frederick County Public Schools. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Food and Nutrition Services Specialist.

Qualifications:
Education/Training/Experience:High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of successful experience in the food service sector. Certification/License:Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Current SERV-SAFE Sanitation Certification, including knowledge of HACCP regulations, or the employee must obtain SERV-SAFE Sanitation Certification within six (6) months of hire. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Familiarity with computer point-of-sale systems. Understanding of financial practices and procedures, including cashiering, bank deposits, and cash accountability. Ability to reconcile food sales with accountability records and deposits. Knowledge of standard sanitation practices for kitchen care and equipment maintenance. Understanding of HACCP sanitation procedures for safe food service. Knowledge of quantity food preparation and forecasting to minimize waste. Effective time management skills. Proficiency in business mathematics. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Effective communication skills in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge and application of culturally responsive practices. Adherence to dress code and hygiene standards. Consistent and reliable attendance. Physical Requirements:Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. regularly. Work in environments with extreme temperatures, such as commercial kitchens and walk-in refrigerators/freezers. Capability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to reach, twist, and bend. Manual dexterity to handle objects and utilize office technology. Mobility to navigate the work area. Vision sufficient to read printed materials and identify objects clearly. Occasional climbing or balancing may be required. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. Work Environment:Regular exposure to loud noises, such as food preparation equipment and raised voices in school cafeterias and commercial kitchens. Preferred Qualifications:Previous food service experience in a public school setting. Familiarity with Frederick County Public Schools policies, goals, and programs. Equal Opportunity Employer:
