Compensation:

Position Overview:

The Floater Site Assistant plays a crucial role in addressing temporary vacancies and absences across all schools and regions by stepping in as a temporary Site Assistant in the cafeteria. This position is accountable for the comprehensive management of the Food and Nutrition Services facility, following guidelines set forth by Food and Nutrition Services, the Board of Education, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Food and Nutrition Services Specialist, the Floater Site Assistant will:
Guide and train Food and Nutrition services personnel to ensure compliance with established standards. Oversee the implementation of the Free and Reduced Meals Program at the school level. Actively engage in the receiving, preparation, and serving of meals to students. Manage accountability programs, including meal program inventory and banking. Ensure food quality and safety standards are met. Promote the Food and Nutrition Services program within the school community. Maintain daily records, including production sheets, temperature logs, invoices, and accountability documentation. Develop daily workflows and coordinate work schedules effectively. Perform various food service tasks, ensuring adherence to health regulations. Ensure recipes are followed accurately. Implement safety and sanitation protocols in line with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards. Manage inventory and order supplies as needed. Participate in mandatory training workshops and meetings. Understand and ensure compliance with USDA and Maryland State Department of Education School Nutrition Regulations. Be available for overtime to cover school schedules during absences. Utilize and train staff on timekeeping systems for accurate payroll. Collect leave forms for staff absences. Work as a site assistant or food service worker across all Frederick County Public Schools. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Food and Nutrition Services Specialist.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience in the food service sector. Certifications:Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Current SERV-SAFE Sanitation Certification, or the ability to obtain it within six (6) months of hire. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Familiarity with computer point-of-sale systems. Understanding of financial practices, including cashiering and cash accountability. Ability to reconcile food sales with accountability records. Knowledge of sanitation procedures for kitchen maintenance. Understanding of food preparation and forecasting to minimize waste. Strong time management skills. Proficiency in basic math. Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Awareness of culturally responsive practices. Adherence to dress code and hygiene standards. Consistent and reliable attendance. Physical Requirements:Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. Work in environments with extreme temperatures, such as commercial kitchens and walk-in refrigerators. Capability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to reach, twist, and bend as needed. Manual dexterity for handling objects and using office technology. Mobility to navigate the work area effectively. Vision sufficient to read printed materials and identify objects. Occasional climbing or balancing may be required. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. Work Environment:Regular exposure to loud noises from food preparation equipment and the bustling environment of school cafeterias. Preferred Qualifications:Prior food service experience within a public school system. Familiarity with Frederick County Public Schools policies and programs.
