Position Overview

Role Summary: The Apparel Technical Specialist is responsible for ensuring timely delivery of product development milestones while managing the associated processes, including cost analysis, quality assessments, and material specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the timely completion of product deliverables while managing the calendar and processes related to costing, quality checks, and material requirements.
  • Engage in negotiations with manufacturing partners to align costs with target margins, providing alternative solutions as necessary.
  • Maintain daily communication with both domestic and international suppliers for designated product categories, with potential travel required.
  • Develop and sustain up-to-date Work In Progress (WIP) reports and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to track the status of ongoing projects.
  • Identify suitable materials and construction methods that align with the designer's vision and product specifications.
  • Collaborate with the production team to establish sourcing strategies for seasonal collections.
  • Participate in sourcing decisions based on production volume, techniques, materials, and cost considerations.
  • Set and uphold fit and construction standards to ensure brand quality and consistency.
  • Lead fitting sessions for received samples and conduct thorough reviews for accuracy and consistency.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to manage departmental workload effectively.
  • Coordinate communication with factories for prototype development, including timeline establishment and raw material management.
  • Assist in sourcing and training new factory resources.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in apparel product development or technical design.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, fabric properties, patternmaking, costing, and surface applications.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings and implement processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the design, development, and merchandising processes from concept to production.
  • Ability to interpret design intent and propose alternative solutions.
  • Capacity to serve as a technical resource for team members.
  • Proven track record with domestic and offshore suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of garment fit and the ability to guide manufacturers on necessary pattern adjustments.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Full-Circle is advantageous.
