Position Overview

The Business Division is seeking to fill the role of Educational Technology Support Specialist (III).

Role Definition

Under supervision, this position entails performing technical support functions in an educational environment, assisting learners with their academic endeavors through established protocols; reinforcing concepts and instructions provided by educators; aiding both staff and students in utilizing equipment and facilities; preparing and facilitating lesson-based activities as instructed; assisting with various technologies; overseeing examinations; and executing other related responsibilities as assigned.

Supervision Structure

Work will be conducted under the direct oversight of the department manager. While guidance may be received from instructors or division chairs, direct supervision will not be provided by them.

This role does not entail direct supervision of other employees but may involve providing guidance to lower-level staff, temporary workers, and/or student assistants.

Work Schedule

40 Hours/Week, 12 Months/Year

Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are typical for this classification:
  • Conduct technical support tasks in educational settings, assisting students with academic work following established procedures.
  • Reinforce instructional concepts and terminology presented by educators; clarify assignments and guide students in using necessary equipment and materials.
  • Assist instructors and students in utilizing facilities and equipment; manage scheduling for laboratory and equipment usage.
  • Monitor student participation and attendance, reporting any issues to instructors.
  • Prepare and set up equipment and materials for scheduled exercises and assignments as directed by educators; demonstrate safe usage of equipment and materials.
  • Support students and instructors in utilizing various technologies, including instructional tools and communication platforms; configure software applications to meet specific needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware and software; notify appropriate personnel of repair needs.
  • Oversee and score assessments based on criteria set by instructors.
  • Maintain organized records related to student participation and performance in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Assist in compiling and reporting data; recommend improvements to laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to lower-level staff and student workers as needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Two (2) years of experience in instructional support.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:
  • Academic subjects relevant to the position.
  • Technologies and equipment pertinent to the academic field.
  • General procedures and safety regulations in educational settings.
  • Data collection and reporting methods.
  • Standard office practices and software applications.
  • Effective communication and customer service principles.
Physical and Mental Requirements

The following physical and mental standards are necessary for performing essential duties:
  • Mobility: frequent sitting, occasional standing, walking, and reaching.
  • Dexterity: frequent fine manipulation for operating equipment and handling documents.
  • Lifting: ability to lift materials weighing up to 10 pounds regularly; up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual Requirements: frequent use of vision for reading and close work.
  • Hearing/Talking: frequent communication in person and via telephone.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: frequent interaction with staff, students, and the public; managing deadlines and time-sensitive tasks.
Work Environment

Work is typically conducted in an educational laboratory or similar learning environment.
