Department Overview

The Wireless Technology division is leading the charge in redefining connectivity for the future. We are at the forefront of constructing the nation’s first virtualized, standalone 5G wireless network, which serves as the foundation for a fully connected world, free from previous limitations and capable of adapting to the dynamic demands of our society, economy, and technological advancements.

Key Responsibilities

DISH Wireless is on the lookout for an Interconnect/Peering Engineer with substantial knowledge in global and local Internet and voice routing. This position requires a thorough understanding of peering agreements, third-party services, DNS, IP addressing, and BGP to facilitate the effective management of DISH mobile data traffic, which is anticipated to surge with the launch of our 5G network. Candidates should be skilled in adjusting connectivity solutions to meet changing traffic patterns and possess familiarity with network operators and service provider protocols.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Formulating peering, IP transit, and interconnection specifications for the 5G network.
  • Diagnosing and evaluating voice call traffic using Call Detail Records (CDRs).
  • Developing business cases for traffic flow modifications to third parties and analyzing their implications.
  • Overseeing data traffic management and proposing network alterations as necessary.
  • Ensuring that reliability, security, and redundancy standards are fulfilled.
  • Fostering innovation and sharing expertise across teams.
  • Establishing and managing performance metrics through SLAs and KPIs.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, including NOC, to provide technical support and knowledge transfer.

This role is vital in the design and enhancement of data and voice interconnection, potentially involving equipment specifications and API integration to deliver exceptional services to DISH customers.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

+ Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or Engineering.

Experience:

+ 5+ years in Internet/Telecommunications networks.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of SIP protocol: call flows, configuration, and root cause analysis.
  • Strong background in VoIP technologies and Call Detail Records (CDRs).
  • Experience in managing Voice Traffic capacity.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Wireless Core and IMS with a focus on Interconnect.
  • Aptitude for correlating telemetry, establishing benchmarks, and providing insights to enhance network operations.
  • Familiarity with optical networking and interfaces, including the ability to write detailed technical specifications.
  • Capability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.
  • Understanding of traffic engineering, Internet access services, and Ethernet services, including the processes for obtaining, processing, and storing throughput and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of telecom industry partners and services.

Compensation

Salary Range: $96,250.00 - $158,125.00 per year.
