Senior Relay Protection & Studies Engineer

Position Overview

As a Senior Relay Protection & Studies Engineer, your primary focus will be on the development of relay settings and conducting studies related to substation protection and control design projects. You will collaborate with major electric utility clients and contribute to renewable energy initiatives, including large-scale solar installations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and extensive wind energy projects connected through substations.
Core Competencies
  • Designing relay protection schemes utilizing microprocessor-based technology
  • Coordinating protective devices for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors
  • Creating logic settings to support relay protection schemes
  • Conducting area protective device coordination studies
  • Performing transmission-level impact and feasibility assessments
  • Executing Load Flow Studies
  • Carrying out Short Circuit Studies
  • Managing Insulation Coordination
  • Implementing Arc Flash Studies
Additional Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in transmission power system protection studies and relay settings
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one (preferably PE)
  • Experience with renewable interconnection projects (wind, solar, BESS)
  • Documenting processes and results of studies in comprehensive reports
  • Reviewing studies conducted by peers and providing constructive feedback
  • Assisting clients in meeting compliance standards
  • Mentoring junior engineers to foster their professional development
  • Exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills with colleagues and clients
  • Collaborating with the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer to establish project goals, prepare design estimates, and outline project requirements and design strategies for complex projects.
  • Leading engineering efforts on intricate studies requiring client interaction, coordination with other engineering firms, and collaboration with various departments. This includes identifying study input needs and coordinating the collection of necessary information and data.
  • Formulating the initial design strategy for significant phases of large projects or overseeing the engineering tasks on routine projects.
