Senior Relay Protection & Studies Engineer

Position Overview

As a Senior Relay Protection & Studies Engineer, your primary responsibility will involve managing relay settings and conducting studies related to substation Protection and Control (P&C) design initiatives. You will collaborate with major electric utility clients and renewable energy projects, including large-scale solar installations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substantial wind farms interfacing through substations.
Core Competencies
  • Designing relay protection frameworks utilizing microprocessor-based relays
  • Coordinating protective devices for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors
  • Creating logic settings to support relay protection schemes
  • Conducting area protective device coordination studies
  • Performing transmission-level impact and feasibility assessments
  • Executing Load Flow Studies
  • Carrying out Short Circuit Studies
  • Managing Insulation Coordination
  • Conducting Arc Flash Studies
Additional Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in transmission power system protection studies and relay settings
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one (PE preferred)
  • Experience with renewable interconnection projects (wind, solar, BESS)
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports documenting the processes and outcomes of studies conducted
  • Experience in reviewing studies performed by peers and providing constructive feedback
  • Collaborating with clients to assist in fulfilling their compliance obligations
  • Mentoring junior associates to facilitate their professional development
  • Exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills with team members and clients
  • Working alongside the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer to establish project objectives, prepare design estimates, and outline project requirements and design strategies for large or intricate projects.
  • Capable of serving as Lead Engineer on complex studies requiring collaboration with clients, other engineering firms, and various departments. This includes identifying study input requirements and coordinating the collection of necessary information and data.
  • Conceptualizing the initial design strategy for a significant phase of a large project or overseeing the engineering work on a routine project.
