Position Overview
The Industrial Water Treatment and Optimization (IWTO) division at Arcadis is seeking a skilled process mechanical engineer with a minimum of 4 years of consulting engineering experience. This role focuses on the design and optimization of industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in developing engineering drawings, performing calculations, creating process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and drafting specifications and technical reports tailored for industrial clientele. You will lead small to medium-sized design initiatives as a process mechanical task lead, supported by Arcadis' IWTO experts. Additionally, this position offers the opportunity to mentor junior and entry-level engineers.

Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as the process mechanical engineer on industrial water and wastewater projects, guiding design tasks with support from Arcadis' IWTO specialists.
  • Developing engineering designs, including drawings, specifications, P&IDs, calculations, technical reports, and equipment selection for industrial water and wastewater projects.
  • Collaborating with drafters/designers and coordinating with other disciplines to finalize construction documents.
  • Providing engineering support during construction phases, including reviewing submittals, addressing requests for information, and other office-based engineering tasks.
  • Ensuring compliance with design specifications through field inspections and testing during construction.
  • Delegating engineering calculations and drawings to junior staff and actively seeking guidance from senior engineering personnel.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Experience in designing water and wastewater projects and preparing comprehensive construction documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Access, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations using software tools (Excel, Mathcad, etc.).
  • Experience in writing and editing equipment and piping specifications.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial wastewater.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • 6 years of experience in industrial wastewater.
  • Professional Engineer registration in one or more states.
  • A Master's degree in engineering.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling.
  • Familiarity with Design-Build, CMAR/CM-GC, and/or EPC project methodologies.
  • Experience providing construction support services for water and wastewater projects.
