Senior Relay Protection & Studies Engineer

Position Overview

As a Senior Relay Protection & Studies Engineer, your primary focus will be on relay configurations and analyses related to substation protection and control design initiatives. You will engage with significant electric utility clients and renewable energy projects, encompassing large-scale solar installations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substantial wind energy facilities linked through substations.
Core Competencies
  • Designing relay protection frameworks utilizing microprocessor-based devices
  • Coordinating protective devices for transmission lines, bus systems, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors
  • Creating logic settings to support relay configurations
  • Conducting area protective device coordination analyses
  • Performing transmission-level impact and feasibility assessments
  • Executing Load Flow Analyses
  • Carrying out Short Circuit Analyses
  • Implementing Insulation Coordination
  • Conducting Arc Flash Analyses
Additional Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in transmission power system protection analyses and relay configurations
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility to obtain (Preferred PE)
  • Experience supporting renewable interconnection initiatives (wind, solar, BESS)
  • Documenting processes and outcomes of studies in comprehensive reports
  • Reviewing analyses conducted by peers and providing constructive insights
  • Collaborating with clients to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Mentoring junior engineers to facilitate their professional development
  • Exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills with colleagues and clients
  • Working alongside the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer to establish project goals, prepare design estimates, and define project specifications and design strategies for complex projects.
  • Acting as Lead Engineer on intricate studies requiring interaction with clients, other engineering firms, and various departments, including identifying study input requirements and coordinating data collection.
  • Conceptualizing initial design strategies for major project phases or overseeing engineering tasks on routine projects.
