The Position: Housing Case Manager, SSVF

Key Responsibilities: You will play a vital role in assisting Veterans enrolled in our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program within the Greater Richmond Continuum of Care (CoC). Your focus will be on helping them secure and maintain permanent housing through a Housing First approach. This includes:

  • Overseeing the eligibility and screening process for low-income veteran families, reviewing applications, and providing guidance to help families create a plan for achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Delivering housing stabilization case management services, which involve developing personalized housing support plans with specific goals and timelines, and coordinating services with community providers as necessary.
  • Collaborating with mainstream community resources to ensure continuous support services that promote permanent housing stability.
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of housing barriers, budgets, and action plans for each participant.
  • Engaging regularly with housing location providers to facilitate effective landlord outreach and retention efforts.
  • Building and maintaining professional relationships with housing providers, including realty brokers, private landlords, public housing authorities, social services, and government agencies to enhance service delivery.
  • Calculating housing affordability and performing habitability and lead-based paint inspections.
  • Assisting individuals in securing and maintaining employment to enhance their income for long-term housing stability.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in human services is preferred, along with at least one year of experience working with low-income and/or homeless adults.
  • Familiarity with the Veterans Service System and military culture is strongly preferred.
  • HQS inspection certification or the ability to obtain it within three months of employment is required.
  • Knowledge of case management practices, Fair Housing laws, and landlord/tenant regulations is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication abilities are necessary.
  • Attention to detail, along with the ability to plan, prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines, is crucial.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with HUD VASH vouchers is preferred.
  • A valid VA Driver's license and reliable transportation are required, as travel may be necessary.
