Position Overview:

The City of Durham is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our innovative Involuntary Commitment (IVC) Response Unit. This specialized role is part of a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing community safety through compassionate crisis intervention.

Salary:
$46,093 - $56,036 Annually

Job Type:
Temporary with benefits (More than 1000 hours)

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist a Licensed Clinician in conducting in-field first examinations for individuals in crisis.
  2. Perform health screenings as part of the first examination documentation.
  3. Respond to emergency calls related to mental health and behavioral crises, employing trauma-informed intervention strategies.
  4. Collaborate with team members to build trusting relationships and develop effective response plans.
  5. Maintain medical equipment and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  6. Document all actions and interactions accurately to meet program deliverables.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED with additional coursework in emergency medical care.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as an EMT.
  • Certification as an Advanced EMT by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.
  • Ability to travel within the Durham area and perform physical tasks associated with the role.
  • Commitment to the mission of enhancing public safety through community-centered approaches.
