General Overview of the Role:
This position involves performing a variety of tasks under supervision, in accordance with departmental protocols. Responsibilities may include the procurement, preparation, distribution, and storage of medications, as well as providing clinical pharmacy services to ensure safe medication practices.
Pharmacy Technician Level II candidates must demonstrate proficiency in all tasks associated with Level I and meet specific advanced competency requirements.
Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) is mandatory for Level II staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Pharmacy Technician I:
- Accurately and efficiently execute workflow procedures, including prescription processing and medication distribution.
- Restock automatic dispensing cabinets and anesthesia workstations as necessary.
- Answer and screen telephone calls, directing them to the appropriate personnel.
- Handle medications in compliance with departmental, regulatory, and legal standards.
- Collaborate with pharmacy team members, insurance providers, and customers to resolve medication and insurance-related issues.
- Assist with basic clinical functions to support the clinical pharmacist.
- Ensure efficient operation of specialty machinery and software necessary for job functions.
- Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.
- Document all assigned safety and quality activities in line with departmental procedures.
- Prepare IV solutions and compound non-sterile medications as required.
- Support team goals while managing individual responsibilities.
Pharmacy Technician II:
- Perform various clinical functions to assist the clinical pharmacist.
- Operate and troubleshoot specialty machinery and software as needed.
- Support team objectives with minimal supervision.
- Assist in training new employees and students in job-specific tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Pharmacy Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program, or acceptance into pharmacy school, or one year of pharmacy or healthcare-related experience.
Pharmacy Tech II:
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program, or acceptance into pharmacy school, or one year of pharmacy or healthcare-related experience.

Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
Licensure and Certification:
Pharmacy Tech I:
Must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within the first 180 days.
